Even More Important (Keep Trusting Us) |
|||
As was touched on in last week's posting, Alchemy Mindworks' software has traditionally been signed with a digital certificate. The most visible function of this technology is to prevent Windows from displaying scary messages when you install our stuff. Earlier this year, the price of digital code signing certificates escalated from exorbitant to extortionate. In the interest of keeping our costs, and hence the prices of our products, as low as possible, we decided to rethink the issue of code signing. We've created what we consider to be an elegant resolution to this issue. If you download and install Alchemy Mindworks software, we invite you to install the Alchemy Mindworks trusted certificate first. Click on the foregoing link for an approachable discussion of this issue, and a two-minute walk-through to make the whole treacherous conspiracy go away for the next decade. While you're busy ridding your computer of some of Windows' more nettlesome popups, we invite you to disable its Smart Screen blue window of doom as well, another questionable security feature that's probably beset you with concern of late. There are few things you can do with a
computer that are more satisfying than spanking Windows. Should you have any concerns about our software, the security thereof or the issue of code signing, we invite you to contact us. We'll be pleased to explain this situation in as much detail as you require, and the message you receive will be signed by a living, breathing Alchemy Mindworks staff member — not a certificate. |
