Announcing Pagan Daybook 11
|
Pagan Daybook
11 has been released. Among its new and enhanced
features are:
- Sound
Effects: Adds optional sound effects to Pagan
Daybook's screen saver. It can beep and crash and
zap and generally express itself whenever the moving
window changes direction, appears or otherwise does
something interesting.
You can enable or disable screen saver sounds in the
Application tab of Pagan Daybook's Setup window.
Click on the Sounds button therein to configure your
choice of the substantial internal library of sound
effects, or import your own.
- Saver
Backgrounds: Adds a number of new screen
saver background graphics fresh from an alternate
universe. Right-click in Pagan Daybook
and select Select Screen Saver, and then click on
Transitions to experience the entire library.
In addition to fractal textures and other abstract
content, Pagan Daybook can use
photographs as its screen saver backgrounds. We've
added a few examples to the library of backgrounds.
No wolves were harmed in the making of this
application — and happily, no photographers.
Right-click in the Transitions list to see what its
items look like as full-screen graphics.
- Observance
Database: The pictures in the observance
database have been reviewed. In a number of entries,
we returned to the original art and updated the
database with sharper and more vivid graphics.
- Windows
10 Performance: Slower computers running
Windows 10 can cause the movement of the Pagan
Daybook window in its screen saver to become
erratic. The logic that drives the window has been
improved to minimize this. If you continue to
encounter the screen saver staggering across your
screen like a drunken reveler, enable the Suppress
Screen Saver Animation option in Setup. This will — as
its name implies — stop the small animation in
the lower right corner of the Pagan Daybook window
from moving. It will also prevent Pagan Daybook from
updating its time and date once per second while the
screen saver is visible, which was hitherto a
substantial part of the problem.
- JPEG:
Updates the library that reads JPG documents for Pagan
Daybook to address several potential
security issues.
We'd like to urge all the users of Pagan Daybook to update to
this release immediately.
- WebP:
Updates the library that reads and writes WebP
documents for Pagan
Daybook and its ancillary
applications to address several potential
security issues. It also improves the image
quality of WebP graphics.
- Image
Libraries: All the libraries that read and
write graphics for The Pagan
Daybook
have been reviewed to ensure that they're secure
and totally bulletproof. There being some really
disagreeable people under many of the rocks of the
Internet, we urge all the users of our software to
keep its security elements up to date.
- Cursor:
Fixes a bug that could cause a Windows cursor to
appear momentarily when the screen saver moved
across your desktop, under some configurations of
Windows.
- Performance:
Addresses a number of GDI and
performance issues that software developers never
really stop meddling with.
- Documentation:
Updates the documentation.

blue button to download Pagan Daybook 11.

Announcing Calendar Wizard 11
(additional notification)
|
We've
enhanced functionality of Calendar Wizard, added some
radical new clock styles, improved its performance and
generally refined it to better get along with Windows
10. (We hasten to add that it still performs admirably
under earlier builds of Windows, all the way back to
Windows XP, if you're feeling retro.)
Among the
new features and enhancements to Calendar Wizard, you'll find
that it:
- JPG
Security: Updates the library that reads
and writes JPG documents for Calendar Wizard to
address several potential security issues.
We'd like to urge all the users of Calendar
Wizard to update to
this release immediately.
- Image
Libraries: All the libraries that read
graphics for Calendar
Wizard have been reviewed
to ensure that they're secure and totally
bulletproof. There being some really
disagreeable people under many of the rocks
of the Internet, we urge all the users of
our software to keep its security elements
up to date.
- Paint:
Adds a Select Paint button to Calendar
Wizard's
Setup window, allowing the default external paint
application to be selected without recourse to
editing Calendar Wizard's
configuration data.
Click on Select Paint in the Files / Display tab
of Calendar Wizard's
Setup window.
The Help button in the Select Paint window will
explain everything... trust us.
- Alternate
Paint: If you have registered the current
release of Alchemy Mindworks e-Paint, or Graphic
Workshop with e-Paint UltraLight, hold down the
Ctrl key when you click on a Paint button in Calendar
Wizard to call for one
of these alternate paint applications.
- User
Interface: Updates the typographic
controls in the Edit Month and Edit year windows
to make them cooler and more intuitive.
- Print
Dodecahedral: Updates
the Print Dodecahedral calendar logic to render
your calendars as twelve-sized desk toys that
can be printed, cut out and folded into
three-dimensional objects.
There were a few printer inconsistencies in the
previous edition that turned up on some output
devices.
Should the dodecahedral calendar option have
thus far eluded notice, there's an example shown
here prior to the application of scissors and
tape. It takes about five minutes to cut one out
and assemble it... and then most of the
following year to stop playing with it.
We hasten to add that you can choose the design
elements in
dodecahedral
calendars — this includes adding
pictures or textures to their
faces, in place of the solid color
illustrated in this posting.
- File
Open: Fixes a bug in the File Open window
that could prevent it from remembering its size
under some configurations of Windows.
- Window:
Updates the screen logic to prevent Calendar
Wizard's application window from flashing when
it first opens a calendar, hitherto an issue
under some configurations of Windows.
- Performance:
Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues
that software developers never really stop
meddling with.
- Documentation:
Updates the documentation.
As in years
past, when you run Calendar Wizard 11 for the
first time, it will look for a previous installation
of Calendar
Wizard 10 and optionally copy your
existing configuration, so you won't have to
set everything up by hand.
Click
on the blue button to download Calendar Wizard
11.
