Graphic Workshop Professional 10
Revision 9
(new this weekend)
|
Graphic Workshop
Professional 10 has been updated. Among its new and
updated features are:
- JPEG Library:
The library that reads and writes JPEG documents —
or .JPG files — has been updated to the latest
release. This addresses a potential stability
issue, and it improves the already light-speed
JPEG management in Graphic Workshop and its
ancillary applications.
- Scan to
View: In addition to scanning to
documents, Graphic Workshop can now scan to its
View window, from whence you can edit, process,
crop and ultimately save your scanned images.
Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard when you
click on the Scan button in the Graphic Workshop
tool bar to use the scan to View option.
- Print
Workshop: Addresses an issue in Print
Workshop that could cause it to crash if it was
asked to print a paletted graphic, under some
configurations of Windows.
- JFIF
Association: Adds a link to the list of
associated file types to support JFIF files, an
alternate extension for JPG.
- GWS
Camera Preview: Adds an option to the GWS
Camera screen capture to allow your captures to be
previewed before they're written to graphic files.
- Reset
Blocker: Addresses a reporting issue in the
Application Reset Blocker. The Application
Reset Blocker will assist you in preventing
Windows from periodically resetting your
selected applications for opening documents to
its default choices, such as the Edge web
browser and the Photos viewer.
- Performance:
Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues
that software developers never really stop
meddling with.
- Documentation:
Updates the documentation.

10 yet, you might want to review a more extensive list

Pagan Daybook 10 Revision 2
(additional notification)
|
Pagan Daybook 10 has been updated. Among its new and
enhanced features are:
- Application
Security: In our continuing determination to
ensure that Pagan Daybook presents
no opportunities for cybercretins to exploit, we've
done a line-by-line review of its source code to
find any potential buffer overruns. Several turned
up. Now they're history.
- Graphic
Libraries: The libraries that open graphic
files for Pagan Daybook have been
reviewed, line by line, until several programmers
begged for a few days of differential calculus
instead. They're now substantially more secure, and
as such more resistant to malformed graphic files
that have been crafted to install malware on your
computer. They're also quicker and have smaller
memory footprints.
We urge all
users of Pagan Daybook to update to
the current release and nail these vulnerabilities
before they nail you.
- Further
Application Security: Addresses a
particularly stealthy and pernicious memory issue
which afflicts the internal configuration logic
and
the themes used by Pagan
Daybook.
Left to its own devices, this one could crash the
application and potentially compromise your
Windows security.
- Screen
Saver: Addresses an issue in Pagan
Daybook's
screen saver which could cause it to display some
textured backgrounds with incomplete tiling under
some configurations of Windows.
This update also adds a number of new background
textures for Pagan Daybook's
screen saver.
- Observance
Database: Updates the observance database,
addresses a few typos. The gods favor decent
spelling... probably.
- Performance:
Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues
that software developers never really stop meddling
with.
- Documentation:
Updates the documentation.

The Great Winemaking Tax Revolt
Updated
(additional notification)
|
If you feel like
you're buying a round for the government every time you
raise a
glass of wine, it might be time to consider making your
own.
Steven William Rimmer's lucid, approachable overview of
home brewing has been revised and updated. Referencing
the state of the art in winemaking, The Great
Winemaking Tax Revolt will guide you through
successfully making your own wine even if all your
earlier experience in the craft involved pouring
commercial moonshine from a cardboard box with a duck on
the front.
It will also help you save a very large pile of taxes
while you're drinking the health of your friends and
family.
