We'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the users of our software the very best of the festive season, whatever it's called in your house.

We'd also like to wish you substantially less snowfall than is illustrated here.

May the season bring you joy, the comfort of family, the serenity of the closing of the year, and no socks.

Graphic Workshop Professional 12 Revision 6

Graphic Workshop Professional 12 has been updated.

In this release:

  • Effects: Several issues with the Graphic Workshop Effect window as it applies to animations have been addressed. It hitherto could produce mangled GIF documents under some configurations of Windows.

  • Save As: Graphic Workshop's Save As window — as summoned by View, among others — now references the default file extension field in Setup. If you enter a file name with no extension, it will append the default extension to create a legal file name. Note that if you set File Extension Case in Setup to Lower Case, the file extensions added by Save As will all be in lower case.

  • Animation Workshop UltraLight: Graphic Workshop's ancillary application Animation Workshop UltraLight has been updated to address some issues with its frame modes, most notably one that caused it to display spurious frames in animations with Image objects having negative offset values. Several cosmetic issues associated with the Respect Frame option have also been nailed.

  • Caption: Graphic Workshop's default Caption window has been updated such that its typographic controls — font, font size, text color and so on — will apply to the entire text field if no text has been selected. We've heard from a number of users of Caption who suspected it was broken, as it appears to do noting if no selection is available.

  • Crop: The Graphic Workshop crop window has been updated to address several issues. A cosmetic bug in the Properties window that could leave spurious selection lines near the example image has been stomped. A rounding error that caused dimensions set by Properties to be off by one pixel under some configurations of Windows is no more.

  • EXIF: The Turbo JPEG processor will now create JPEG files with EXIF metadata intact if you enable Preserve EXIF Blocks in Setup and convert or process source graphics having EXIF data.

  • Print 3D: The Print Dodecahedron and Print Cube windows now include fields to set the printed characteristics of dashed lines. It has come to our attention that some Windows output devices — most notably the Microsoft Print to PDF printer option — can render dashed lines with tiny spaces between the dashes in question, so the lines look more or less solid. If you're confronted by such a device, set the Dashed Pen Mode in one of the foregoing windows to a non-zero value — five or six works well in most cases.

If you haven't experienced Graphic Workshop Professional 12 as yet, please see its initial release announcement for a list of all its new and enhanced functionality.

Announcing Font Wrangler 12

Font Wrangler 12 has been released.

We've added new functionality to Font Wrangler, improved its performance and generally refined it to better get along with Windows 10 and 11. (We hasten to add that it still performs admirably under earlier builds of Windows, all the way back to Windows XP, if you're feeling retro.)

Among the new features and enhancements to Font Wrangler 12, you'll find...

  • Quick 64-bit Architecture: Font Wrangler is now available in both traditional 32-bit and leading-edge 64-bit editions. The 64-bit software is fast, gets along more favorably with Windows and pretty much never runs into memory issues. We hasten to note that registering or updating to Font Wrangler 12 will avail you of a registration key that works with either edition... or both, if you're feeling adventurous.

  • Windows 11 Compatible: The version 11 software has been showing some decidedly rough edges under Windows 11, and may stop installing and/or running therein. Font Wrangler 12 rocks under Windows 11.

  • Font Page: Font Wrangler's sophisticated font web page builder has been updated to improve its HTML and address some metrics issues.

  • View Window: The Font Wrangler View window has been updated to address several issues that appeared under some configurations of Windows if the Save As button was clicked.

  • JPEG Security: Font Wrangler's Turbo JPEG library has been updated to the latest release to address some security issues.

We'd like to urge all users of Font Wrangler to update to this release as quickly as possible.

  • Performance: Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues that software developers never really stop meddling with.

  • Documentation: Updates the documentation.

Calendar Wizard 12 Revision 2

Calendar Wizard has been updated.

In this week's release:

  • Dodecahedral Calendars: It has come to our attention that some Windows output devices — most notably the Microsoft Print to PDF printer option — can render dashed lines with tiny spaces between the dashes in question, so the lines look more or less solid. This can make the dodecahdral calendar printer's output a bit difficult to work with. If you're confronted by such a device, set the Dashed Pen Mode in Setup to a non-zero value — five or six works well in most cases.

From the initial release:

We've added new functionality to Calendar Wizard, improved its performance and generally refined it to better get along with Windows 10 and 11. (We hasten to add that it still performs admirably under earlier builds of Windows, all the way back to Windows XP, if you're feeling retro.)

We hasten to note that registering or updating to Calendar Wizard 12 will avail you of a registration key that works with either edition... or both, if you're feeling adventurous.

  • Windows 11 Compatible: The version 11 software has been showing some decidedly rough edges under Windows 11, and may stop installing and/or running therein. Calendar Wizard 12 rocks under Windows 11.

  • Drawing Engine: A number of metrics and details have been improved in the calendar drawing engines for Calendar Wizard.

  • File Association: An issue that prevented Windows from associating Calendar Wizard's .CLN documents with the Calendar Wizard application under some configurations of Windows has been addressed.

  • JPEG Security: Calendar Wizard's Turbo JPEG library has been updated to the latest release to address some security issues.

We'd like to urge all users of Calendar Wizard to update to this release as quickly as possible.
